As this is the first time I’ve invested in quality cosplay wigs, I spent much too long touching, preening, examining, gushing over, and primping my wig before I even got around to putting it on my wig head. After I’d faffed my heart out, I realized I’m going to need to try it on. Quality wigs come with adjustable bands (genius!), and I needed to size the wig before I do anything else.

image

I trimmed the lace on the front to ¼” ear-to-ear. I tried the wig on for size and discovered it’s a bit large. That’s ok, I’ll adjust the size later.

I put the wig back on the foam head, securing it at the hairline with straight pins. I then took the long handled dustpan, and put the rolled yoga mat covered in a towel over the handle.

image

About 4” of handle was sticking up out of the yoga mat, so I popped my wig head on the handle end (there’s a hole in the bottom for just this type of contraption).

This allowed me to freely brush the wig and begin putting the curlers in.

I’ll have another update soon – I’m hoping to get all the curlers in by tomorrow evening. Up next: steam setting the curlers!
