  • Know what you need to build and what you can MacGyver from things that already exist – what can you cannibalize?
  • More and more cons aren’t allowing any metal props at all so best to make it out of something else and have it look like metal
  • Get a hand planer for sanding esp. for swords and flat blades
  • Sand a lot, seal it, sand, prime, paint
  • Poplar is a good starter wood
  • Get it knot free ‘cause it will weaken your piece
  • If you need a custom shape, use foam
  • Can get chrome finishing spray paint but DO NOT add a top coat over this as it will dull the chrome finish
  • If you’re painting something silver, do a black base coat – it will make the silver pop
  • Always do a light Google to see what other people have done
  • Instructables website great for tutorials, always read the comments for added tips and tricks
  • If you want to glue something, go to thistothat.com – it lists all sorts of adhesives for every use ever
  • A Dremel is a good tool to have in starter kit, along with steel ruler, jigsaw, hot glue gun, exacto knife, drill
  • Don’t be afraid to experiment with hot glue – there’s many kinds available
  • Can even mold with hot glue!
  • Always use sulphur free plasticene for moulds

I apologize that this entry is rather short – I left the panel early because the room was large, extremely full, and I was sat at the back. Unfortunately, the people around me were more interested in chatting than paying attention and I couldn’t hear very well.
